I am not a big fan of winter but I do like snow. Having lived in Massachusetts and Michigan in the past, I have seen my fair share of flurries and blizzards. I must confess, however, that living in the cozy South for the last 6 years I do occasionally wish for a little bit of snow. If only I could figure out how to have snow without the cold… Hmm…
My kiddos, on the other hand, having been born minutes from the Mexican border, had never seen snow. Until today. (I should probably add here that even South Texas got snow this winter…not until after we left though)
I have often found them looking over pictures of me in the snow on our photo albums and listened to their fantasies about building snowmen, throwing snow balls, and sledding. So when we heard that we might get snow today, via several code red weather alerts on my phone, they were quite ecstatic.
Needless to say, they were up way before dawn to check for snow outside their windows and to inform us of their findings.
Snow didn’t start until 9 am.
It was actually quite a surprise to see it coming down so earnestly. I didn’t expect to see big flakes and certainly did not expect it to accumulate. The kids were mesmerized.
Even though it only lasted for about 40 minutes, it is now a few hours later and I can still see it on the ground outside my window. Probably not for long.
Now that I got my secret wish for snow granted and the kids got to see their dream become a reality, even if only for a little while, I am ready to be warm again. =D I am ready to be back in the 70’s.
Here are some pictures from our snow day…
How is your winter going?
